About Pelican Zero
An independent consultancy for people who need a straight answer about security technology.
Security technology is rapidly evolving (finally!). New technologies, new companies, new go-to-market strategies. Traditional relationships are still important, but with so many new faces in the market it can be hard to figure out how to approach things.
Pelican Zero was born out of contacts built over more than a decade in the security industry launching new products and new trends, who kept asking for help evaluating new platforms or finding the optimal solution. That informal advice became a consulting practice. From AI to zero trust, we can save you valuable time and resources on your next project or partner selection.
We work for manufacturers, integrators, and end users, but never for all three on the same project. Recommendations are not tied to any vendor, and we do not take referral fees. If a product is not a good fit, you will hear that first.
Brian Karas
Pelican Zero is run by Brian Karas, who has spent his career on the technology side of the physical security industry, bringing new products to market and testing what the market sends back. Along the way that has included building custom measurement tools, digging into firmware and protocol details, and writing publicly about what trade-show demos and vendor claims look like once you get them on a bench.
He is based in St. Petersburg, Florida, and is a regular at ISC West, GSX, and the other events where the industry compares notes.
Writing and research
Pelican Zero also publishes analysis on security technology: AI in physical security, access control vulnerabilities, video performance testing, and summaries from industry events. The archive from the previous site will be brought over here; in the meantime, get in touch if you are looking for a specific piece.
